MISSION:
To empower women and families from all backgrounds through compassionate education, coaching and community support before, during and after pregnancy and childbirth. We work to eliminate preventable disparities and ensure positive birth outcomes are experienced by every mother regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.

We provide accessible, culturally responsive, evidence-based resources with a focus on reaching underserved groups facing barriers to maternal healthcare and support.

VISION:
Our vision is a just society where all mothers and families receive the knowledge, care and encouragement needed to experience pregnancy and new motherhood joyfully, regardless of circumstances. Our vision is for every community to have informed, empowered mothers who feel in control of their own healthcare decisions and able to fully trust and communicate with their providers. We envision and will work towards a society with equitable access to respectful, culturally-sensitive maternity care where the needs of underserved communities are prioritized and addressed, so that all women feel empowered in their decisions about their own bodies and birthing experiences and all families can experience the joy and empowerment of a healthy birth.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of Maternity Matters Education and Coaching is to ensure that expecting parents have access to the knowledge, resources, and support they need to have a safe, healthy, and positive maternity experience. We aim to empower individuals to advocate for their own care, make informed choices, and feel confident and prepared as they transition into parenthood.
We believe that the transition to parenthood is a human right that should not be determined by circumstances beyond one’s control. By prioritizing underserved groups, we aim to dismantle systemic barriers and ensure all women and families receive empowerment, knowledge and support to experience pregnancy and motherhood with equal dignity and care.
We believe that the right to a safe and empowering birthing experience should not be determined by race or ethnicity.

Provide training to help address implicit provider biases that contribute to disparate treatment and outcomes.

Conduct targeted outreach and offer culturally-sensitive programs for groups facing disparities such as low-income families, (those with limited English proficiency, LGBTQ+ individuals, teenage parents, incarcerated women, and others.
